Become a Member

The SILC is a Governor appointed Council. A majority of all members must be Individuals with disabilities, who do not work for a Center for Independent Living (CIL) or a state agency.
The SILC must include members who: provide statewide representation; represent a board range of individuals with disabilities from diverse backgrounds; and are knowledgeable of CILs and independent living services.
The SILC provides orientation and training for all new members and offers opportunities to attend state, regional, and national trainings and conferences. The SILC meets at least four times a year, on a quarterly basis. Reimbursement is provided for travel, lodging, and other reasonable and necessary expenses. A term of appointment is three years and council members may serve two consecutive terms. Each Council member is asked serve on at least one committee.
If you are interested in serving on the SILC, complete the membership application and submit it to the Council to be considered for recommendation for appointed.

Volunteer

A key way to contribute to the workings of the SILC is to become a volunteer. Volunteers are invaluable members of Maryland SILC of the IL community. They are instrumental in helping to promote the mission of the Council.
